5-2-1-0 Challenge

  5-2-1-0 Challenge

Students and staff from Franklin and Randall can earn points at home and school by doing a variety of healthy activities.  It’s easy, fun, and teaches healthy habits!

The 5-2-1-0 Challenge will be from Mon, March 6 – Sun, March 19 (2 weeks).

The Challenge is based on 5-2-1-0, a nationally recognized, proven effective, healthy lifestyle program.  It’s a simple way to teach children good habits to stay (or to get) fit every day, by aiming for:

5 – servings of fruits and veggies

2 – hours or less of recreational screen time

1 –  hour or more of physical activity

0 – drinks with added sugar; drink more water & low-fat milk if possible

Look for colorful explanation forms and point sheets sent home with your child on Thurs, March 2.

Please contact Nurse Lovell if you have any questions: clovell@madison.k12.wi.us, 204-2301, or 204-4405.

** By the way, an article about the 5-2-1-0 Activity & Nutrition Challenge (ANC) last year is available online at http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/1059840517689893 – it looks best if you click on the PDF icon (that’s how the article will look when it’s published in the Journal of School Nursing later this year).  It shows how the 5-2-1-0 Challenge helped kids make healthy choices (such as drinking less chocolate milk at school, which has 4 extra teaspoons in it.)
