Advanced Learning at Franklin

September 14, 2018

Franklin Families!

Over the course of this school year, I will be working alongside teachers to provide appropriately challenging learning opportunities for all students as the Advanced Learning Specialist. We will provide learning opportunities that broaden, deepen, and stretch beyond grade level expectations when students are ready for additional challenges. Generally, students taking advantage of these supports show high capabilities or the potential for high performance. This can include areas like reading, math, creativity, leadership, and the arts. Learning opportunities are available to everyone allowing each student to determine their level of challenge.

If you feel that your child has needs or abilities that Franklin staff may not be aware of, you are encouraged to complete an inquiry form from the Advanced Learning website or in the main office. Both locations provide a form in English, Spanish, and Hmong.

The MMSD Advanced Learning department is aiming to reach students across all demographics. All families have the opportunity to participate in the Advanced Learning Advisory Committee where you will be provided more details about advanced learning and families can have input on the future of advanced learning in MMSD. Meetings will be held on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 where childcare for ages 4–12, dinner, and translations in Spanish and Hmong are available. The first meeting will be September 20, 2018 at the Lussier Community Education Center at 55 S. Gammon Road. You do not need to RSVP to attend. For more information regarding meeting dates and locations please visit the Advanced Learning Advisory Committee website.

I look forward to working with all Franklin Falcons! Have a great school year!
