Franklin’s playground has needed improvements for several years. We’re excited to share that big changes are finally on the way!
Our project focuses on addressing three major issues:
- Poor stormwater drainage, which causes puddles and ice patches
- Limited accessible play options
- Lack of trees and plants
Thanks to several years of savings from the Franklin Flash Dash, we’re ready to begin Phase 1 of our playground improvements. While we can accomplish much with our current funds, we’re also hoping to raise additional donations to help us include more accessible playground equipment. Any funds raised beyond our Phase 1 goal will go directly toward future phases.
Phase 1: Playground Updates Coming Summer 2026!
We’re planning to break ground in summer 2026 on the first stage of Franklin’s playground transformation. Phase 1 will include:
- Improved drainage: Installing a storm inlet to help water flow out of the playground.
- New fencing: Removing the existing fence, repairing the foundation wall, and installing a new fence.
- Track addition: Pouring the first section of a concrete track that will eventually loop around and through the entire playground.
- Green space expansion: Adding bio-infiltration and pollinator gardens to increase greenery and manage stormwater naturally.
Stretch Goal:
If fundraising allows, we’ll also add a new accessible play area on the east side of the playground, including two new pieces of equipment and a pour-and-play surface for easy access.

Phase 2 & Beyond
Once Phase 1 is complete, we plan to continue transforming the playground in additional phases as funding allows. Our current long-term vision includes:

Phase 2: Add Grass and More Gardens
- Relocate a shade structure to provide shade on the playground instead of the sidewalk.
- Extend the concrete track.
- Convert half of the existing blacktop into grass.
- Expand bioinfiltration and pollinator gardens to continue improving stormwater management.

Phase 3: Enhance and Connect the 4K Playground
- Update the 4K space to connect more seamlessly with the larger playground.
- Add green spaces to the 4K area to assist with stormwater management.

Phase 4: New Asphalt, Natural Play Areas, and a Stage
- Replace the remaining asphalt and repaint the surface.
- Complete the concrete track.
- Add a stage area for performances and gatherings.
- Include natural play elements along the track for imaginative play.
Get Involved
Together, we can create a safer, greener, and more inclusive playground for all Franklin students. Every contribution helps us move closer to our goal!
